Welcome

PSADRE.info will provide valuable links to information where men (and their families) can learn about this organ that is the source of both minor and major health problems (Infection, BHP, Prostatitis, and Cancer) for almost every man who lives long enough.

Although it’s only about the size of a walnut, the prostate has been called a miniature Grand Central Station. It is a very complicated and busy organ at the center of a man's urinary and reproductive tracts. Men should undergo an annual prostate cancer screening examination. The exam consists of a PSA (Prostate-specific antigen) blood test and DRE (digital rectal exam). Although this is currently the major standard for early detection of potential prostate cancer, research is on going to provide more effective methods.

Proper education is the key to understanding any issue that may effect the quality of life for a man or his family member. Don’t be trapped by myths, half truths, old wives tales and false information about the prostate issues. This can cost you your life and or health.

The Truth Is:

  • African American men are at a higher risk (1.5-2.5 times) than other ethnic group.
  • Prostate cancer is silent and without early waning signs except through testing.
  • Prostate cancer is curable if caught early.
  • Prostate cancer and other issues doesn’t mean the end of sexual activities.
  • You can live a normal life.

Finding a prostate cancer support group is essential to learning how to live with the reality of prostate issues. A support group can provide a comfortable environment to openly discuss your concerns and learn about the various testing and treatment options from men who have tried them.

As men we must learn to freely share our fears, our ups and downs, and our joys as we live with the reality of prostate issues. Only then will prostate cancer awareness, research, and funding become as visible as breast cancer awareness.

Trying to survive prostate issues, especially cancer, without the support of other men and your family is the biggest mistake you can make, unless you choose not to get tested.
